BARCADOS, N.M. (AP) Barbadas real estate prices soared Tuesday as President Donald Trump pushed for tax changes on a raft of issues that will benefit his wealthy backers.
Trump is scheduled to address the country on Friday.
A Trump spokeswoman says the president plans to announce new tax breaks for people who invest in housing and will be signing legislation on health care, trade and infrastructure.
The AP has been unable to independently confirm the reports.
A spokesman for Trump did not immediately return a message seeking comment Tuesday night.
The president has been pushing a tax cut package, which he hopes will help spur economic growth and create jobs.
He has said the package would lower taxes for everyone except the wealthy.
The measure is expected to raise $1 trillion over 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
That would give the U.S. a net gain of $11.4 trillion over the next 10 years.
Trump’s top advisers say they have been discussing the issue with his Cabinet, congressional allies and other advisers since last week.
The administration has said it is working on a plan that would help spur the economy and make it more competitive.
Trump and his advisers have made it clear they are not willing to allow tax breaks to be extended for wealthy Americans.
The tax plan could be unveiled Friday, but a White House official says it will be a first pass.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the plan is still being finalized, said Trump and other administration officials have been trying to negotiate with Democrats on the tax code, including some that support a middle-class tax cut.
Trump has said he wants a tax overhaul to benefit the middle class.
