Real estate sales denvers are being told their properties can’t be sold, but the number of times it has happened in the last year alone is startling.
The numbers are in stark contrast to the average of the last seven years.
In 2016, just 1,917 properties were sold in Denver and 2,000 in San Francisco.
The year before that, that number was 3,078 and in 2017 it was 2,723.
In Denver, the sales peak was the year before when 2,983 properties were purchased.
In San Francisco, the peak was in the spring of 2018.
And it’s not even the first time the numbers have exceeded 2,500.
In fact, the average number of properties sold in 2016 was 1,856.
In 2017, the median sales price was $1.3 million.
And in 2018, the figure was $2.4 million.
In some cases, it’s even higher, like in the case of a house in the Denver suburb of Westminster that sold for $3.7 million in 2017.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, the numbers are much higher.
There were 1,962 homes sold in the region in 2016, and in 2019, that jumped to 2,854.
But the real estate agent who works with these buyers is surprised the numbers haven’t been as high in other areas of the country.
She told CBC News, “It’s just been the way the market has been, and there’s been a little bit of a bubble popping, so I’m not sure why it hasn’t gone higher.”
The average number for each market is not a reflection of where a buyer lives or what the market is like in general.
But it does help give some context.
As the housing market continues to improve, the number will go up.
“It means more people are buying properties and we see more of them are staying put and purchasing property that’s affordable to them,” said the agent.

“As the market matures, there are some trends that are occurring and we will be watching them, and if we are seeing the same pattern again in the future, we are going to have to react,” she explained.
